1970年、歴史的な巨大イベント「大阪万博」のド真ん中に、前代未聞の怪塔「太陽の塔」が現れる。
万博のシンボル《大屋根》を突き破り、70mの高みから会場を睥睨する姿は、いまも語り継がれる高度成長期を象徴する光景だ。
同時代を生きた日本人で「太陽の塔」を知らぬ者はいない。見れば、だれもが〝あのころ?を思い出す。空前絶後のスー パーアイコンなのだ。こんな芸術作品はおそらく世界にも例がないだろう。しかし、いやだからこそ、メッセージは伝わらなかった。「太陽の塔」はだれもが知っていたが、その意味を感知できた者はほとんどいなかった。高度成長に沸く当時の日本には早すぎたのかもしれない。だがいまこそ必要なのだ。「太陽の塔」の出番はまさにこれからなのではないか？
