《由于恋爱》入选2014年坎城影展「一种注视」单元。导演奈德班森找来曾是女友的洁西卡雀丝坦担纲女配角并身兼监製。为了显现「每个恋爱故事都有两面」的概念，他将电影拍摄成两个版本：一部从丈夫（男方）的视角拍摄，另一部以妻子（女方）的视角叙事，让观众体验到男女双方分歧的恋爱概念。
本片为男方版本，描写相爱多年的妻子（洁西卡雀丝坦饰演）被哀痛沉没，在留下成堆费解的话语和满屋的迷惑后，就这样消失在康纳（詹姆斯麦艾维饰演）的生活当中。「到底出了什麽题目？」康纳发狂似地四周探问追求解答，不但和代沟深厚的爸爸重拾相同、和死党翻脸舌战，甚至向不太喜好自己的丈母娘请教。但是，在能梳理出清楚结论之前，康纳似乎得先拯救自己，逃离回忆的漩涡…。
