简 介
德国小镇，脸孔狰狞的卡里加里博士（沃纳·克劳斯 Werner Krauss饰）终究获准表演催眠术。大门生弗朗西斯（弗里德里希·费赫尔 Friedrich Feher饰）和艾伦（汉斯·海因里希 Hans Heinrich von Twardowski饰）也来旁观。疯狂的卡里加里博士向众人展现他是若何催眠和控制他的同伴凯撒（康拉德·韦特 Conrad Veidt饰），并向众人公布：凯撒可以回答大师提出的一切题目。猎奇的艾伦问道：我能活多久？病态的凯撒回答：活到明天清晨。弗朗西斯并不相信，可艾伦却是满脸惊骇。随之，艾伦真的被杀戮了。弗朗西斯把消息告诉了好朋友珍妮（丽尔·达戈沃 Lil Dagover饰）和她的医生父亲。他们展开了多方追捕，可惊人的奥秘却丝丝入扣，到底谁才是实在的凶手？
本片是天下电影史上被议论得最多的影片之一，是德国表示主义电影的里程碑之作。影片以其荒诞的表示主义气概，成为今后西方可骇片为之效仿的鼻祖。1958年本片在比利时布鲁塞尔由26个国家117位电影史家评选为“天下电影12佳作”的第12名。
