◎简 介
明治27年、広島県の山奥の村。地主の屋敷に女中奉公するセキは、郵便配達夫の茂市に求婚され、勘当の身となりながらも嫁ぐ。
将来車問屋を始めるために荷車引きをする茂市を手伝うセキに、姑は冷たく当たる。だが、子供にまでも辛く当たる姑が病気で倒れると、セキは心の底から看病をし、姑も最後には感謝の涙をこぼす。
ようやく車問屋を始めることができたのも束の間、鉄道が通じ手車は時代の波に取り残される。それでも子供たちが独立していき、セキにも幸せな日々が訪れるかにみえたが…。
