◎简　　介　
　　未来世界中，工程工人道格拉斯（Arnold Schwarzenegger 饰）被持续的梦境困扰，那是一系列发生在红色火星上的体验。道格拉斯在广告上发现了回忆旅行公司的介绍，虽然同事警告他这种虚拟旅行可能会危害人类的大脑，但比起亲自去一趟充斥着反政府武装的火星，回忆旅行公司确是一个不错的选择。道格拉斯如愿接受了回忆旅行的服务，但是虚拟记忆的过程突然出现错误，自此一系列不可思议的经历出现在道格拉斯的身上，先是妻子劳瑞（Sharon Stone 饰）向他发起攻击并承认自己是监视道格拉斯的间谍，后来有陌生人出现帮助他逃脱并指出他是火星独裁者针对反政府武装派出的特工，结果因为一名女子梅丽（Rachel Ticotin 饰）改变了立场……道格拉斯动身前往火星，那里有一切的谜底，或者一切又只是梦境一场？

◎幕后揭秘
　　《全面回忆》的剧本初稿由《异形》编剧丹·欧班农和罗纳德·舒塞特联手完成，创作灵感源于科幻作家菲利普·迪克的短篇小说《We Can Remember It for You Wholesale》。两位编剧早在迪克在世时就买下了小说改编权，却迟迟找不到有意投拍本片的制片商。经历了漫长的搁置之后，影片终于在80年代中期迎来转机，接手本片的制作人迪诺·德·劳伦提斯决定让理查德·德莱福斯担纲主演，当时帕特里克·斯威兹也曾待选，而有意执导本片的大卫·柯南伯格却希望由威廉·赫特主演。柯南伯格在回想起筹拍经历和与舒塞特的分歧时说：“我为了这部电影耗费了一年时间，剧本先后修改了12稿，舒塞特最后对我说，‘你知道你做了什么？你完成的是菲利普·迪克的版本，而我们想要的是火星上的《夺宝奇兵》。’”在《沙丘》票房失利之后，德·劳伦提斯也对本片失去了兴趣，而早先被其拒之门外的阿诺·施瓦辛格立即抓住这一难得机遇，他不但说服卡罗可电影公司（Carolco Pictures）买下影片改编权，还为该公司节省了300万美元，并为自己商定了100至110万的片酬以及影片赢利15％的分红，除此之外，施瓦辛格还享有极大限度的决策权，可以决定制作人、导演、剧本和演员。
　　在成为《全面回忆》台前幕后的掌门人后，施瓦辛格首先着手的便是亲自招募保罗·范霍文出任本片导演，因为后者执导的《机械战警》给他留下了深刻印象，而且他还曾与片中主演失之交臂。当时剧本已经修改至第42稿，可故事结局却一直悬而未决，范霍文为此找来编剧加里·戈德曼与舒塞特共同致力于剧本。范霍文还聘请了多位合作过《机械战警》的昔日搭档，其中包括演员罗尼·考克斯、摄影师约斯特·瓦卡诺、艺术指导威廉·山德尔和特效设计师罗伯·伯汀。
　　影片大部分在墨西哥城拍摄完成，其中的未来派地铁站和机车确实是墨西哥公共交通系统的组成部分，只是车厢被喷涂成灰色并添加了电视监视器。本片起初被定为X级，在删减了部分暴力场景和运用多角度取景后，才最终被定为R级。《全面回忆》是最后一部大规模采用微缩景观特效的好莱坞大片，共有五家特效公司效力于本片，片中唯一的CGI特效是时长42秒的扫描旅客骨骼及其私藏枪支的X光画面。
