　　本片是由哥伦比亚电影公司出资委任电视记载片导演皮特?戴维斯（Peter Davis）拍摄的一部探讨美国为何在1959-1975年时代策动对越战争，越南群众的悲凉遭受，以及美国群众对越战态度改变的记载片。这是美国外乡初次放映间接采访刻画越南平民惨境的影片，片中屡次表示了美军将领的种族主义和美国政府对国内助民的无耻欺骗。电影于1974年在法国嘎纳电影节首映，随即使因内容的严重争议性被哥伦比亚公司弃捐。制片人波特?施耐德（Bert Schneider）与亨利?兰格（Henry Lange）向哥伦比亚公司买回了版权，并终究1975年经过华纳公司在美国公映。
