　　伊森.鲍威尔是已经是一位努力于大猩猩研讨的人类妹家。在非洲奥秘失落两年之後，终於被人们发现了行迹，但此时的他不单性情大变，而且由于杀人罪行被一切人视为极端危险份子。鲍威尔的希奇改变引发了年轻的心理妹家卡尔特的爱好，他试图应用自己专业水和蔼聪明才干去揭开这位监犯的精神异常之谜。同时他更想指导鲍威尔说出昔时的失落缘由和杀人经过。但一样有着高明心理分析才能的鲍威尔并不为年轻气盛的卡尔特所劝服，他对这位野心勃勃的心理妹家一路头就布满着敌意。两位半斤八两的高手在氛围阴晦的牢狱中展开了一场持久的心理战和智力比赛。随着两人在心理上的逐步认同和感情上的慢慢接近，卡尔特发现在鲍威尔的心里深处，隐藏着一段有关人类残暴赋性的悲剧性履历，而鲍威尔对自然生命的顾惜和庇护使他起头意想到，同等和自在对于一切生命的重要意义。
